Flowers aren't the only way to bring in fresh elements to your table or countertop! Succulents make the perfect living plant to work with. They last longer, and when placed together in a glass bowl with some simple touches, make a great gift or housewarming present. In this article, I am going to teach you how to make an arrangement using succulents. Does this Spark an idea?

Succulents come in many shapes, colors and sizes. You can often find the small ones (2-inch to 4-inch pots) for a few dollars each at most nurseries, or even home improvement stores like Home Depot carry them in their garden centers.
2To make one arrangement, depending on the size of your container, you'll want to use two to four succulents. I like to mix the different varieties for contrast in texture and color.
3Choose the vase or bowl. In one of the pictures, I used a long metallic vase I purchased. In the other, I used a large glass pedestal bowl I had in the kitchen.
4Succulents need very little water. You can plant them in potting soil in the container, or if you are using the glass and sand, you can leave them in the plastic pots so that you can take them out to water them, which is what I like to do. This way the sand does not get wet. Fill the vase with some dirt and plant the succulents. They should be about 1/2 inch apart. Water a little bit and you're done!
5For the large pedestal glass vase, since it is clear, I recommend not using dirt, but either large pebbles or decorative rocks/crystals. If the vase is smaller, you can use sand (like black sand) or small pebbles. One larger rock can be a nice contrast in size and shape to your "succulent garden." Place three succulents in a triangle formation and cover the pots with rocks or sand. So chic and so easy!
6These can be displayed alone, or mixed in with other elements on a coffee table, side table or console. I also like to do an all glass display and use only glass vases, candlesticks, balls and decorative ornaments. This can also be done with ceramic pieces all in white. Mix in a few pieces with your "succulent garden" and you'll have a very chic, modern arrangement that will work in ANY home.
